Whenever possible, event organizer should select sites and venues that:

•    are centrally located to minimize travel distances for participants, organizers and employees;
•    are safe and secure for participants, organizers, employees and community;
•    are accessible to all participants;
•    are energy and water efficient;
•    are serviced by accessible public transportation; and
•    have the necessary infrastructure in place.

In the absence of a strong legacy case, consider temporary structures. When constructing new venues, build for low impact and high legacy.

• use environmentally sustainable design, materials, products, and construction methods;

• use efficient water and energy technologies;
• ensure that venues are barrier free and accessible to persons with disabilities; and
• ensure environmentally sensitive ecosystems are not impacted.
